Comme des Garçons, French for “like boys” launched the brand’s first menswear line, Comme des Garçons Homme Plus, in 1984 after a success in entering the European fashion market for its punk and avant-garde womenswear collection. The brand’s name makes a hint at the collections’ gender fluidity and Comme des Garçons Homme Plus enforces Rei Kawakubo’s design philosophy. Kawakubo tells us while the technical basics of clothing lie in men’s fashion, she doesn’t believe in the concept of female and male. Comme des Garçons Homme Plus’s signature designs include classic tailored menswear pieces fused with couture-like feminine details.
