In an era of fashion distinctly driven by media and widespread acclaim, it is rare to find a designer who chooses instead to obfuscate their work. Skirting most attempts to canonize her works, designer Elena Dawson, conducts almost no press activity–relying instead on word of mouth to transmit information about her designs. After studying art and fashion design, she co-founded Paul Harnden Clothiers in 2000 as an extension of the world renowned Paul Harnden Shoemakers. In 2006 she founded her own label that has been growing steadily ever since. Similarly to her work alongside Harnden, Elena Dawson clothing is characterized by a distinct handmade feel and Victorian era styling. By combining this time hardened aesthetic with a deconstructionist’s eye, Dawson creates garments that have an induplicable soul. Using primarily fabrics sourced within her native United Kingdom, she creates garments that become far more soulful than the clothing that is typically consumed today. Each piece is handmade in her London atelier imbuing them with the effort and consideration it takes to make truly beautiful clothing.
